Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) has been a part of my workout routine since last October. I never thought I would start doing BJJ; however, I fell in love with watching MMA a couple years ago, and that kind of got me thinking of doing it. Anyhow, I should write down what I learnt today from the amazing Junior at BJJ class today.
Kimura from side control:
It starts with the overhook side control. First, I need to move my body up and against my opponent's chest, so I can put more pressure on his chest. When the time is right, I am going to trick my opponent to think that I am going to mount him. If my opponent take the bait by using his arm to block my mount attempt, I will have to quickly push his arm down by locking his wrist and use my other hand to hold onto my own wrist. Now, if my opponent make a grip on his own pants or belt, I will have to pull him up and turn his body side way. The key here is to make sure both of my knees are against his body, so he won't be able to escape. Once his body is up, I will swing my leg that is near his shoulder across his head. At this point, I will break his grip, and push his hand behind his back to increase the pressure on his shoulder until he taps.
Kimura turned shoulder lock from side control:
It starts just like the move above. However, I have trouble pulling my opponent's body up because of his strength. Instead of using my strength against his strength, I will have to change things up a little bit. I will slide the arm that's holding onto my own wrist down until I can hold or make grip of the bicep of my other arm, and then my other hand will make the same grip. Now, I will have to raise my hip up, and make two big steps around my opponent's head until I get to the other side of his body. Once I get there, I will switch my base, and use my leg that has its foot flat on the mat to push my hip onto my opponent's head. At the same time, I will have to lift his shoulder up, and then push his hand down to increase pressure on his shoulder until he taps.
These are the two moves that I learned today. I have had a good day of training, but my cardio is still very sub par. I don't like this hot weather, but I have to deal with it. Hopefully, I will be more mentally tough like my man Mike. He had a very good roll with Jake, and he got him with a Kimura twice!! A big shout out to Mike. He's also the one who got me started doing this online blogging thing! Thanks Mike!
Besides BJJ, I think I've re-discovered my passion for basketball lately. I don't know, I am just random like this all the time. Hey, basketball puts meal on the table for me, so I better not give up on it. I still want to be a coach one day, and make a name for myself in the world of basketball! By the way, the Portland Trail Blazers have just hired Rich Cho from the Oklahoma Ciy Thunder to be their GM. Congratulations to Mr. Cho, because he is the first Asian to hold a GM position for an NBA team. Now, that's some inspiration for me!
I guess this is it for my first blog. I don't know how long I can keep up with this. I think it's time for me to go to bed, and spend some time with the Lord, Jesus Christ. It's good to know that Jesus is watching over me every day, but I am still learning to put more faith in Him. Lord, I am a man with a little faith, so please help me.
It's time to go! Good night, world!
